Nicholas Hoult Shares Chilling Experience with Wolves on 'Nosferatu' Set
Nicholas Hoult, known for his roles in films like Warm Bodies and The Great, recently opened up about a frightening encounter he had while working on the set of Nosferatu. The actor is starring in the highly anticipated reimagining of the classic horror tale, which is directed by Robert Eggers. During filming, Hoult had to face not just the eerie setting and intense storyline, but also a real-life scare involving wolves.
In an interview, Hoult described the moment as "both surreal and terrifying." While filming a scene in a remote, forested area, the production team incorporated wolves to enhance the eerie atmosphere of the movie. Although the animals were trained, Hoult admitted that being so close to such powerful creatures was intimidating.
“They’re beautiful, but you can’t help but feel a little nervous when you’re around them,” Hoult said. “Even though you know they’re trained, they’re still wild animals, and you have to respect that.”
The encounter became even more nerve-wracking when one of the wolves began behaving unpredictably. Hoult recalled how the wolf’s intense stare and subtle movements created a sense of danger. “There was this moment where it locked eyes with me, and you could feel its energy shift. Everyone on set went silent,” he explained.
The crew quickly stepped in to ensure everyone’s safety, and the trainers managed to calm the animal down. Hoult praised the team for their professionalism and the precautions they had taken to prevent accidents. However, he admitted that the experience stayed with him long after the scene was filmed.
“It added to the tension of the scene, for sure,” he said. “But it’s not something I’ll forget anytime soon.”
Nosferatu is a retelling of the 1922 silent horror classic, which follows the story of a vampire preying on a small town. Eggers is known for his meticulous attention to detail and atmospheric storytelling, which often involves pushing boundaries to create authentic experiences for viewers.
Despite the scare, Hoult expressed his excitement about the project. “It’s been an incredible journey working on this film,” he said. “The story is haunting, and I think audiences are going to love the atmosphere we’ve created.”
As fans eagerly await the release of Nosferatu, Hoult’s chilling encounter with the wolves adds another layer of intrigue to the film’s production. It’s clear that the cast and crew have gone to great lengths to deliver a truly immersive and terrifying experience for audiences.
